Coming In From The Cold
A group exhibition
This exhibition invites artists to explore the sensory and emotional contrasts between cold and warmth, winter and summer. Artists are also invited to reflect on personal preference: whether drawn more strongly to the stark beauty of winter or the energy of summer.
Those who wish may develop a cohesive artwork that leans into one season, expressing their own connection to either cold or warmth. The exhibition welcomes a range of interpretations, from direct representations to abstract explorations of temperature, atmosphere, and feeling.
For the cold / winter aspect, artists are encouraged to draw on cool colour palettes—blues, whites, greys, and silvers—to evoke the stillness and clarity of colder seasons. Sculptural works may take the form of ice or materials that suggest frost, fragility, and the quiet intensity of low temperatures.
In contrast, the warmth theme offers a space to explore heat, comfort, and vitality. Paintings may incorporate warm tones such as reds, oranges, and yellows, while sculptures can engage with materials or ideas that provide warmth or protection for people or animals—whether functional, symbolic, or conceptual.
