The tortoise, often regarded as one of the earth’s most ancient living creatures, moves slowly and deliberately, embodying patience, endurance, and quiet contemplation. Its measured pace becomes a metaphor for reflection - an invitation to consider the weight and significance of life’s decisions.

In human experience, our feet serve as our foundation and stabilizers, carrying us through the passage of time. Echoing this sense of support and protection is the form ofthe tortoise shell. In ancient Chinese tradition, tortoise shells were once used as calendars - objects through which time itself was interpreted and understood. Here, the shell becomes both armour and sanctuary, a protective vessel that safeguards the fragile self within.

Yet protection also holds the possibility of transformation. The opening of the shell reveals a moment of release: eagles emerge, symbols of freedom, power, and spiritual ascent. They carry the soul upward, beyond earthly confines and into the open sky.

For the artist, this imagery mirrors a personal journey. Like the eagle, the creative spirit launches outward into unknown realms, embracing the freedom of flight. In this work, protection, reflection, and liberation converge - suggesting a passage from stillness to movement, from enclosure to boundless possibility.
