Lana Botha is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice bridges the worlds of fine art and visual communication. She earned her degree in Information Design from the University of Pretoria, graduating with distinction in 2024, where she developed a strong foundation in both conceptual thinking and visual storytelling. From a young age, Lana was drawn to art, always knowing she wanted to become an artist. While her creative instincts were present early on, she began pursuing design more seriously at the age of sixteen, setting her on a path that would shape both her career and artistic voice. Today, she works as the Lead Designer at Mama Creative, a Johannesburg-based agency, where she continues to refine her approach to design through collaboration and real-world application. Working primarily in gouache, a medium she discovered during her university years, Lana explores the tactile and expressive qualities of paint. She is particularly drawn to its ability to bring softness, depth, and immediacy to her work, allowing each piece to feel both intentional and alive. Her work is deeply personal and emotionally driven, often inspired by her own experiences and the lives of those around her. Through her practice, Lana translates moments, relationships, and internal reflections into visual form. Creating becomes a therapeutic process, where emotions are externalised and given space to exist beyond the self. Blending her background in design with a painterly sensibility, Lana’s work captures a balance between structure and feeling. Each piece invites quiet reflection, offering viewers an intimate glimpse into lived experiences shaped by memory, connection, and emotion.
