Azanda Nyangintsimbi

Artist Biography

Azanda Nyangintsimbi is a visual artist based in Pretoria and Cape Town. Raised in Pretoria, South Africa, he explores themes of identity and individuality through his art.

Using charcoal, Nyangintsimbi captures not just physical form but also the emotions and stories of his subjects. His work highlights the complex interplay of persona and personal history.

Studying at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Nyangintsimbi has exhibited both locally and internationally. His art has been recognised by the Arts and Culture Trust, reflecting his broad appeal.

Nyangintsimbis work often explores xenocentrism, queer identity, and the black experience, blending elements of fashion, architecture, and symbolism. His style shifts between hyperrealism and surrealism. Most of his work consists of self portraits, making his autobiographical.

Azanda Nyangintsimbi's portraits go beyond depiction, telling stories and challenging perceptions.
