Wat Woman Carry II: Love

What Women Carry II: Love (2026) reflects on love as an enduring act of care, memory, and connection. Inspired by Devotion in Red, the work reimagines devotion through a personal lens by combining a scanned layer of bioplastics layer digitally overlayed over a photograph of the artist’s mother.

The textured biomaterial partially obscures the portrait, creating a delicate surface through which the figure gradually emerges when illuminated. Light becomes a means of revelation, allowing presence and memory to coexist within the work.

By centring a maternal figure, the lithophane acknowledges forms of love that are often unspoken yet deeply influential. It considers the care, guidance, sacrifice, and emotional labour that carry and share across generations. Through the interplay of light and material, the work honours love as both a visible and invisible force that shapes our lives.
