This vase was inspired by a memorable trip to Italy, where I was surrounded by the beauty of Italian architecture, ceramics, and traditional decorative patterns. I wanted to capture the feeling of discovering Italy and bring some of its history and character into my ceramic piece.
The shape of the vase was influenced by classical Italian and Greek-inspired architecture, particularly the strong, elegant forms of columns and ornate details found in historic buildings. I incorporated decorative patterns and curved elements to create a sense of movement and connect the piece to traditional Mediterranean design. I chose blue, gold, cream, and earthy tones to reflect the colours I noticed during my travels, from painted ceramics and aged architecture to the warm Italian landscape. The gold details add a sense of richness and remind me of the intricate decorations found in historic Italian churches and buildings. Overall, this vase represents my experience of Italy through colour, pattern, and form. It combines classical inspiration with my own creative interpretation, turning memories from my trip into a decorative ceramic artwork.
