Ulricke Nelson (Lourens) (born in Pretoria in 1980) completed her MA Fine Arts degree, Waisttraining, Performance Art and Identity, in 2006 at the University of Pretoria.
She is currently the Director of ARTcentric Pty Ltd, an online art and design platform, and lectures at VEGA as well as within the Education Department at the University of Pretoria, where she is also completing her PhD research in ARTrepreneurship. Alongside her academic work, Lourens teaches privately and works as an illustrator for magazines and children’s books, while continuing to develop her own artistic practice.
Previous exhibitions include More & More, a group exhibition curated by Gordon Froud at the FADA Gallery, as well as Altered Pieces, the travelling Leonard Cohen tribute exhibition that began in Johannesburg and concluded in the Western Cape. Her stop-frame animation Reflect Refuel was showcased at Design Indaba. Her most recent exhibitions include the series Amalgamated Saints and the Queen group exhibition curated by Gordon Froud.
Group exhibitions and festival participation include Aardklop, KKNK, the M-Net Online Film Festival, ABSA Atelier, the UJ Film Festival, exhibitions at Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, and the Bigwood 2 Project in Berlin.
Her work forms part of the collection of the Embassy of Nigeria in South Africa and was also included in the centenary exhibition of the Women’s Monument War Museum in Bloemfontein.
