Nolan Chichi Kalwandu also known as Outsidethewoods, is a Johannesburg based visual artist. He mainly creates pieces that focus on our imperfections and the many burdens we carry as human beings especially in the digital edge, the pursuit of perfection is vain and acceptance of who we are can bring us ultimate joy.
Some influences he had growing up
in Johannesburg in the early 2000s play a part in my artwork, giving it this
childlike look to it, that is his way of trying to hold on to his inner child;
with all the pain and joy that come with it. The childlike theme is a nuanced
way he communicates the importance learning as we go through experiences in
life, just as a child does. He is constantly developing his approach to art,
keeping an open mind, and sharing his view on contemporary African art.
