Floreanne Schneuwly

BIO

Born in Switzerland and raised in South Africa, Floreanne works across painting, sculpture, film, and perfumery. Light and colour are central to the mechanics of her paintings, functioning not as formal concerns but as vehicles for the transposition of spiritual things, and enabling an ongoing exploration of the relationship between material and immaterial, sacred and profane.

Drawing inspiration from diverse artistic and cinematic traditions, her work inhabits a space where the physical world is charged with invisible resonance.

Influenced by painters such as Bruno Gadenne, George Bellows, and Edward Hopper, as well as the visionary cinema of Glauber Rocha and Aleksei German, her work moves between the tangible and the dreamlike. Her landscapes reveal telluric narratives that we ignore, and bodies become vessels of history.

"I know why we bury our dead and mark the place with stone, with the heaviest, most permanent thing we can think of: because the dead are everywhere but the ground."Anne Michaels

Floreanne lives and works in Durban, South Africa.
