The elephant across many African cultures is a symbol of power, wisdom, leadership, and unwavering strength and steadfastness in the face of injustice. My piece is a call to the collective to re-member ourselves as a part of the whole and to be pierced with the ancestral wisdom of the Earth and her cycles, a call to a deeper union with the elements and to the beings of this planet. Man’s intrusive impact , not only on the environment but on ourselves is glaringly obvious. When do we become accountable witnesses and humble ourselves to the vast wisdom and interconnectedness nature has to offer us. How do we collect the fragments of our humanity and return to symbiosis? How do we begin to reaffirm and reconcile with the land we have irrevocably scarred? This is the elephant in the room.
