River

It is an experimental drawing that is made with charcoal, pastel, and thread on baking paper. Two different layers of paper make up the surface of this textured drawing. This work forms part of an earlier series of colour drawings that were produced between 2020 and 2021. My drawing practice begins with scripts of monochromatic hues and sculptural mark making as a point of departure to think about mark making as a form of writing. My work is an inquiry that seeks to explore the alternative possibilities of what a drawing is, and how the medium can become a tool for thinking about writing and reimagining an alternative world through mark making and materiality. I'm interested in exploring the language of drawing beyond how we conventionally and traditionally engage with it and produce it. I'm interested in pushing boundaries with familiar materials or materials that would be described as unconventional. My drawings are conversational maps - manifestations about place, desires and imagined spaces that exist outside of the present world - but run parallel to it.
