As we grow up, relief never feels guaranteed, we find it in small fleeting moments, moments often created by the people around us rather than the circumstances we’re in. Long periods of struggle taught me that ease was not the opposite of hardship, but something that could exist quietly within it.
My artwork captures one such moment. A man, covered in grime and small rewards of his work enjoys a stream of water doused on him in his time under the sun. A brief release, a pause offered by one person to another in the middle of difficulty. He tilts his head, closes his eyes and opens his palms to show his surrender, not to defeat but to relief. He revels in the moment under the water that holds his freedom, uncontrolled, unforced, arriving only for a moment before it’s gone.
