Portrait

My drawing is inspired by both me and Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. I have created my own interpretation of this iconic artwork using the medium in which I feel most confident.

The portrait becomes a reflection of myself, with my own eyes looking back at me while also meeting the viewer’s gaze. I want the eyes to be the focal point of the artwork, as they can reveal so much about a person. Through the eyes we see, communicate, express emotion and connect with others. In this artwork, the eyes become the point where the subject and the viewer meet.
