Born and raised in the vibrant township of Soweto, Gauteng, Naledi is a talented artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a unique blend of influences. As the youngest daughter and grandchild in her family, she brings a fresh perspective to her work that is deeply rooted in her experiences and upbringing.

Despite a background in accounting and science, Naledi found her true calling in the world of art. Her journey began at the UJ Metropolitan Academy, a specialized school where she was immersed in the rigors of Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting, and Economics. This diverse educational background brings a distinctive analytical and structured approach to her artistic endeavours.

Naledi's artistic style is characterized by its clean and simple aesthetic, with a profound appreciation for the interplay of shapes and colours. Her work reflects a meticulous attention to detail and a thoughtful exploration of form and composition.

In 2022, Naledi graduated as the top-performing student in her class, a testament to her dedication and talent. She specializes in printmaking but infuses her creations with elements of textile design to add a unique layer of self-expression to her work.

Throughout her journey at the Tshwane University of Technology, Naledi has been actively involved in the art community, participating in numerous exhibitions and even contributing her expertise to curatorial efforts. Her art has not only garnered attention but has also made a significant impact on those who have had the privilege of experiencing it.                          Naledi continues to evolve as an artist, pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons in the world of visual expression. Her work is a testament to the power of creativity, reflecting both her analytical foundation and her profound connection to the world of art.

Artist Statement

My artwork delves into the intricate complexities of the Chiari Malformation, portraying the turbulent currents and intricate networks within the human brain. Through the medium of ink spills, I capture the essence of this neurological condition, where the mind's fluidity is both a source of resilience and challenge.

The deep hues of purple, symbolizing unity and awareness within the Chiari community, dominate the canvas, evoking a sense of solidarity and understanding. These colors intertwine and blend, reflecting the interconnectedness of experiences among those affected by Chiari.

In the midst of the chaotic swirls and eddies, there exists a delicate balance—a representation of the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Just as the ink spills unpredictably across the canvas, so too does the journey of those living with Chiari, navigating through uncertainties and challenges with grace and strength.

Through this artwork, I seek to foster empathy and awareness, inviting viewers to contemplate the profound impact of Chiari Malformation on individuals and their loved ones. It serves as a visual testament to the resilience, courage, and unity within the Chiari community, illuminating the beauty that can emerge from even the most tumultuous of journeys.
