Nkumba Wa Vusiwana The Blanket Of Poverty.

‘Nkumba wa vusiwana’ is a Tsonga idiom that can be translated as the ‘blanket of poverty’. The work Nkumba Wa Vusiwana (The Blanket Of Poverty) (2025) refers to presser of inadequate protection or provision from men due to money, and also to the inability to express by men. I made the work to be light and I used cheap wools to build it, to reinforce the idea of light protection. In addition Nkumba Wa Vusiwana (The Blanket Of Poverty) (2025) refers to my personal journey during the periods I worked in construction sites. The construction of the work itself required the knitting of wool rectangles and joining them together. As in the construction there is process of building blocks, then use the blocks to build. However, Nkumba Wa Vusiwana (The Blanket Of Poverty) (2025) indirectly refers to cheap labour happening in the construction side. Moreover the work says even if men cry internal and appear strong external they are still fragile. As Nkumba Wa Vusiwana (The Blanket Of Poverty) (2025) is also fragile.
