Arist Statement Lerato la Modisana le Ditema tsa Bophelo
My artistic journey is deeply rooted in my Sotho heritage, spirituality, and the profound narratives that shape our identity. 'Lerato la Modisana le Ditema tsa Bophelo' translates to 'The Love of the Shepherd and the Patterns of Life,' a title that encapsulates the essence of this series. Through this body of work, I explore the spiritual and cultural connections between humanity, nature, and the unseen forces that guide us. This series is a relection of my upbringing as a shepherd , where I learned the values of patience, care, and resilience. The shepherd igure symbolizes both physical and spiritual guardianship, drawing parallels to our connection with God and the wisdom passed down by our elders. The visual language of Ditema (Sotho traditional patterns) represents the rhythm of life, our joys, struggles, and the unseen hands that shape our destiny. Using charcoal, acrylic, and mixed media, I aim to create a dialogue between realism and abstraction. The intricate patterns, textures, and layered compositions evoke a sense of history, memory, and continuity. My choice of materials mirrors the contrast between the tangible and the spiritual, allowing the viewer to navigate the visible and invisible realms. 'Lerato la Modisana le Ditema tsa Bophelo' is more than a series—it is a journey of self-discovery and healing. Through these works, I honor my past, embrace the present, and envision a future where culture and spirituality coexist harmoniously. Each piece is an invitation to relect on one’s path, guided by love, tradition, and divine purpose. Through this collection, I seek to inspire a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness—between past and present, earth and spirit, love and sacri ice. My work stands as a testimony that art is not only a visual expression but a bridge to something greater than ourselves
