Marina Walsh - small head series

This is a new series of works . The central theme is the Child’s head carrying or wearing various symbols.

The titles and symbols are mere hints that allude to idioms or sayings in order to trigger a conversation or thought process in the viewer.

The general theme addresses the vulnerabilities of children; their dreams, their hopes, the words and sayings they pick up from adults.

It makes us question what we teach and say to children and also do to children and how they respond to the adult world.

The child is meant to read as gender neutral and the colour ‘white’ means all colours.

The size is small and ‘cute’ and intends to draw the viewer closer and then,perhaps, make the viewer slightly uncomfortable or contemplative.

Some disadvantaged* children are as if ‘made from a lesser God’.

*disadvantaged can mean many things i.e. poor, abused,neglected,or simply vulnerable..all children are somewhat disadvantaged because they are smaller and weaker than adults.
