Biography

Malebogo Molokoane (b. 22 September 1990, Rustenburg, North West) is a South African visual artist renowned for her innovative glass artworks and growing international profile. She began her career as a mechanical assistant before pursuing fine art, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts from the Tshwane University of Technology, where she was inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2022. She later lectured part-time in the institution’s glass studio for three years.

In 2022, Molokoane received the Absa L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award, recognising her as one of South Africa’s most promising emerging artists and advancing the visibility of glass within contemporary art. Her international residency in Paris included participation in UNESCO’s Africa Week 2023.

Her work has been exhibited extensively, including selection for the Sasol New Signatures Top 100, and she presented her debut solo exhibition at the Absa Art Gallery in 2024. Recent achievements include nominations for the 2025 Glass Art Society Emerging Artist Award and the South African Museum Association Key to the Museum Award, as well as receiving the National Arts and Culture Award for Outstanding Visual Artist. She recently completed a 6 months studio assistantship at the Chrysler Museum of Art, USA, received a scholarship from Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung to attend the Bild-Werk Frauenau Summer Academy in Germany, and participated artist in the 2025 Paris Art Expo, 4th Winter Edition. She has been selected to participate in the 2026 Art Connects Women (ACW), an esteemed international exhibition to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and 19th edition, SDGs through Arts-Turkey.
