ARTIST STATEMENT

I was drawn to the apparent perfection of the Alexia Calder jewellery set's repeated lines. At first glance, the forms seem orderly and precise. On closer inspection, the subtle differences due to its handmade nature become visible.

In my interpretation, each wire loop follows a related path while retaining its own irregularity and character. The loops are neither identical nor rigidly aligned, but together they create a sense of visual equilibrium. The work considers how harmony can emerge not from exact sameness, but from variation - allowing each form to retain its own individuality while contributing to the balanced whole.

The textured base carries the marks of its own making. Rough, weighty and imperfect, it anchors the delicate wire forms as they move around it. This contrast reflects the way our foundations, raw and unrefined, do not diminish from the whole, but provide strength and character.
