Interpretation of jewel: “Twigs and Tales” by Loeritha Saayman

The concept of family and how the narrative changes over time stays central to the interpretation. The visual aspects of the jewel piece are reconstructed with specific materials to highlight the physical aspects. Central to this piece of Dendrite Agate are black impurities. These impurities are represented by drawn, machine stitched and embroidered lines over the entire work. The polished surface of the stone is represented by shiny lint. The silver circles are mimicked by silver paper secured with a metallic thread and the stone by layers of cotton.
