Detritus - Crystal Head

Artist Statement

I am inspired by the human condition and our ability to communicate across the chasm of time. Detritus My "Detritus" series of sculptures explore anthropomorphic iconography, combining human-like forms with variations for the heads, where each sculpture is imbued with it's own unique character. These works are a commentary of my ongoing research into Palaeolithic art and the origins of human creativity, and how these images and sculptures still tell a story some 40,000 years later. The "Detritus" series is inspired by the oldest oldest-known example of an artistic representation and the oldest confirmed statue ever discovered, the "Löwenmensch", or "Lion Man", discovered in Germany and dating back to 41,000 years ago.
