The Art doll I created for the exhibition celebrates David Bowie as a fashion icon and his influence on the fashion industry. By fusing eastern and western fashion influences and androgynous dressing Bowie challenged western gender identity and what is acceptable for men to wear. Bowie smashed boundaries. He was the ultimate fashion guru. His influence continues today.
The mixed media drawings were inspired by Bowie’s 1980’s track “Scary monsters (and super creeps)”. The song resonated with my personal journey with domestic violence, inner child healing and growing up in constant fear around a violent, aggressive, narcissistic creep of a mother.
