The Blueprint of Becoming
My work explores the tension between physical exhaustion and existential seeking. It focuses on life of a construction worker bound to a minimum wage, navigating a world where the structures he builds are permanent, but his own financial and personal stability feel entirely fragile.
Though this series, I examine the gruelling reality of selling one’s labour for the barest means of survival. The grit, the dust, and the repetitive, bone-tired routine of the job site serve as a metaphor for being trapped in a cycle. But beneath the layers of smoke and sweat lies a deeper, quieter construction project: the building of one’s self.
Frustrated by the limitations of a minimum salary and the weight of systemic stagnation, the subject is forced to look beyond the external world for upward mobility. He turns inward. This body of work documents a raw, messy blueprint of personal progression. It is a visual narrative about a man trying to “find himself”, not in an abstract, romanticized way, but as a survival tactic. He is actively digging through the rubble of daily survival to unearth his own worth, purpose and potential.
Ultimately, this art is an interrogation of value. What does it mean to build the world with your hands while trying to figure out how to build a life? By elevating the quiet, introspective moments of an ordinary labourer, I aim to show that the hardest work isn’t the physical toll of the clock but is the mental scaffolding required to reinvent who you are.
