Artist Statement

This work inhabits the liminal threshold between sleep and consciousness, where perception warps and the familiar begins to fray. Using Fumage, I relinquish control to smoke's inherent volatility, allowing it to dictate the emergence of forms that hover between figuration and dissolution. I'm not pursuing resolution; I'm courting the friction where certainty unravels into imagination.

The series is rooted in the quietly disorienting the sting of morning light through a window, the residue of a half-remembered dream. One-piece anchors itself in the primal gesture of waking and shielding the eyes; others drift into more elusive territory, conjuring presences that refuse to settle into fixed meaning. Their ambiguity is intentional: shadow bleeds into figure, figure into abstraction, holding the viewer in a state of productive uncertainty.

Smoke operates as both medium and metaphor a fugitive material that captures the ephemeral while preserving its own delicate archaeology. These works are not conclusions but suspensions: images trapped between memory, reverie, and the visceral present, inviting contemplation over comprehension.
