Collaboration exhibition with Artist Proof Studios.

When we work together we can achieve more and we are able to move further ahead.

“Ubambiswano” (Union) is an exhibition hosted by The Viewing Room in collaboration with Artist Proof Studio, the title is inspired by the concept where two or more heads work together towards achieving the same set of goals.  A strategy where the two galleries meet to share skills and resources, which contributes to growth and expansion.

This collaboration represents a unique opportunity for us to combine our resources, expertise, and passion for art to create a full experience for both our audiences, working together visitors can experience an enriching and diverse experience of printmaking excellence in a new space, showcasing a range of printmaking techniques from Artist Proof Studio graduates, emerging artists and collaborating artists.

The prints on display reflect the continuous spirit of collaboration and shared commitments to showcasing innovative and excellence through possibility, from printmaking techniques such as linocut, screenprint, monotype and innovative combinations of multiple techniques in one artwork.

The artworks on display tell many stories from the artists, some grappling with identity and society dogma, others confronting issues we all face in our daily lives but the prints also tell a story of the spirit of collaboration.

As a printmaking studio collaboration between printmaker and artist is a key factor in creating artworks. There are many lessons to be taken away from the result of collaborative efforts between artists and printmakers, where each contributes their unique skills and perspectives to create a single piece of artwork. We can learn from this practice when we admire the technicality and stories behind the artworks, that by coming together and sharing resources the impact is striking.

The exhibition explores the theme of collaboration between printmaker and artist, two galleries from two different spaces and invites the audience to this unique exhibition of what happens when we join two heads together?

The exhibition explores, reflects, and hopes to inspire the viewer to investigate their efforts in everyday collaborations be it in ideas or skills and the impactful role they hold to the grow together with others.

The audience can expect to see prints from William Kentridge, Christiaan Diedericks, Colbert Mashile, Gildo Soares, Lebohang Sithole, Jan Tshikhuthula, Sifiso Temba, Makaziwe Radeba, Cromwell Ngobeni, David Tsoka, Donald Makola, Lebohang Motaung, Adrain Kholer and Thokozani Madonsela to name a few.

We invite the audience to explore the art on display, immerse themselves in the stories that inspired the artists and how the artists achieved these through the technique of printmaking.

We hope this collaboration between our two galleries will inspire new conversations and new connections.
