Fame Sithole (b. 2004, Midrand; raised in Thembisa) is a South African Fine Artist
and Printmaker currently practicing at Artist Proof Studio. She holds a Diploma in
Fine Arts from Vaal University of Technology.
Her practice explores the intimate relationship between people and their worn shoes,
using them as metaphors for movement, memory, resilience, and lived experience.
Through visible traces of scuffs, creases, and wear, she reveals deeply personal
narratives of struggle, endurance, and triumph. Her work investigates how worn
shoes carry fragments of identity and become silent witnesses to human journeys,
reflecting the physical and emotional weight carried through everyday life.
Working across fine art and printmaking, she focuses on the emotional and social
histories embedded within worn footwear. By centering shoes that bear marks of
daily use, labour, and passage, she invites viewers to reflect on the lives,
experiences, and environments connected to them.
In 2024, she exhibited at the Bodutu Art Gallery at the Vaal University of Technology
as part of the Best of 2023 exhibition. She also participated in the Sundays Are Us
pop-up exhibition in Giyani. In 2025, she was part of the “Scapes” exhibition at
Viewing Room Art Gallery.
Through her work, she aims to create conversations around identity, memory, and
the ways environments shape human experience. Her practice reflects on how even
worn shoes can become vessels of perseverance, hope, and personal history.
