Lindie van der Merwe is a contemporary South African artist known for her oil paintings. Born and raised in Pretoria, she discovered her passion for art at a young age, drawn to storytelling through visual imagery.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of Pretoria, where she refined her technical skills and developed a distinct artistic voice. Her academic years were marked by a commitment to exploring diverse mediums and challenging traditional boundaries within fine art.
In 2015, Lindie held her first solo exhibition, Part of Me, at Longstreet Art Lovers 1932. Since then, her work has appeared in several prestigious group exhibitions, including the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards, the Top 40 Portrait Award Exhibition at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery, and the Turbine Art Fair.
Working primarily in oil, Lindie values the medium for its richness, longevity, and archival quality. Each piece is carefully constructed on hand-prepared art boards, ensuring the integrity and preservation of her work.
In addition to painting, Lindie is also a printmaker, exploring texture and tone through reduction lino techniques that extend her fascination with layering, form, and atmosphere.
