Khomotso Phetla‬‬

A multidisciplinary artist from Limpopo, South Africa, whose practice bridges sculpture, painting, collage, and photography. Rooted in personal memory and rural traditions, Phetla’s work explores themes of resilience, inequality, and hope, drawing inspiration from his upbringing in Magukubjane village. Symbols such as numbers, maps, and African cloth patterns recur throughout their practice, reflecting an ongoing inquiry into borders, belonging, and cultural interconnectedness.

Phetla holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Western Cape, where he majored in Anthropology, Geography, and Tourism. Phetla’s work has been exhibited in group shows such as Together (AVA Gallery, 2022), Mother City (6 Spin Street, 2023),
(DECOREX AFRICA 2024) , at Sandton Convention Centre and most recently at CONTRA Joburg 2025.

Currently, Phetla is
studying printmaking at Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg, and lastly Phetla is currently at Asisebenze Art Atelier, where he continues to develop a body of work that interrogates storytelling, memory, and the reimagining of Africa without borders.
